Mayors Art Show Inclusion

I submitted work and have been accepted for inclusion by jury for the 2009 Eugene Mayor's Art Show. I'm very excited to because this is the second year in a row that I'll have had work included.

The piece to be shown is an original drypoint intaglio print entitled 'Generation'. I'm excited this piece will be seen by so many people in the weeks to come.

Trip To Europe

I recently had the good fortune to take a trip to Europe with my pops. The trip consisted of some heavy museum-going throughout London, Paris and Amsterdam.

I have to say I feel much different about the world, my culture and my art as a result of having gone on this trip. Meeting wonderful people, seeing the most amazing man-made objects, and absorbing the many aspects of each and every culture I encountered was overwhelming and very moving to say the least.

I took many photographs while away to keep the memories of the places alive and to create a reference for recalling the many random strolls in the night and odd alleys that were calling me in each city.

Palace Bakery Show Closing

I've determined my recent showing at Palace Bakery to be my most successful so far. Why is that? I This show included more recent work and I received a high level of positive feedback. I walked away from Palace Bakery yesterday with a good feeling. This was the first exhibition of 'Generation', and it actually sold. That, too, feels like success.

I'm looking to show again, but I'll have to make sure to give myself enough time to create even more new work. I've been getting into wood-engraving and I'm working more in pen and ink lately. This combination should prove to create some exciting new imagery.

Death, After Redon

I sold one print from a limited edition of four images created in homage to the French printmaking master who redefined the accepted source of imagery from the very real, representational sources to that of the mind, dreams, what became known in later centuries as the unconscious. Odlion Redon was not only a printmaker, but a talented pastel artists as well.

I have long appreciated his commitment to working solely in black and white before stepping into the overwhelming and often blindingly complicated and sometimes spurious worlds of color.

The print now resides in a private collection in Stuart, Florida.

On my way back to Sactown

Its great, I'm leaving the frigid, cold, dark Northwest for a brief respite in the wonderful Sacramento. Can't wait to see all my beautiful friends again. Let's reunite.

On another very unrelated note, I never realized how much amazing music is coming out of the South right now, and has been for a long time. A good friend has shown me the light and it's stunning. I'm not talking about Dixieland Jazz, quite the opposite actually; I'm talking about that Third Coast Rap Music. I've been mostly listening to stuff from outta Miami and Houston, anyone want to make a recommendation?

If you haven't heard much of it, do yourself a favor and check it out. Its like the future, man. Check out the listens for free found here: http://www.last.fm/user/sselfless

Eugene Coffee Company - Art Show

So. I have another show!

I just finished hanging a bunch of prints at the lovely Eugene Coffee Company. The staff (and patrons) were very easy-going and seemingly unaffected by my slamming nails into to the wall, so thanks to you all.

I have both framed and unframed work up. The framed and matted prints are wall-ready. I've been making sure to frame everything in an archival manner. This means the work is really protected for the long term against acids being deposited or transferred to the work. I've been really particular about using 100% rag mat and backing, linen hinging tape, the works.

I'm also showing some gouache paintings I made awhile ago, and I've already sold one, so that's good news.

Here's what they look like:

The vibe in the Eugene Coffee Company is pretty mellow and its a nice, intimate space. I recommend to anyone interested in a relaxing place to have a quiet conversation or a place to sit alone and enjoy yourself.

If anyone might be in that area of town, please check out the work on display and let me know what you think, I'm always interested in getting some feedback.

New Frontier Market - Art Show

OK, so its confirmed, I have a show for the month of November. :) After checking out my work, the lovely folks of Eugene's very own funky fresh grocer, the New Frontier Market, offered their space to me for the entire month.

After an adventurous day of pounding nails, climbing atop produce refrigerators, and talking squash with the locals, I'm happy to say the collection of selected works is now hanging! I'm especially thrilled with having a show here because whenever shopping there, I find myself digging the laid back atmosphere and crazy/cool people I usually encounter. Its always good vibes and I think folks will enjoy the art hanging there.

Added bonus: the store is also an official stop on the Last Friday ArtWalk. This will be my first time in the ArtWalk as a featured artist for the month of November. I can't wait to link up with the roving masses during that celebratory exploration of grassroots artistry.

Please join me in celebrating the opening of the show, Friday, November 14th, from 6:30-8:00 pm. There will be free wine tasting and good conversation for all who attend. Thanks for your support.
